BARBARA RAKOVSKÁ
Barbara Rakovská is a designer from Prague, with a passion for creating sustainable, environmentally friendly products using biomaterials. Barbara's approach blends art and fashion, focusing on the relationship between design and body. She is experimenting with new materials. Her artworks and designs highlight ethical considerations, sustainability, and a focus on health, striving to positively impact both people and the environment.
After finishing the Master's degree in design, Barbara's educational journey took her to Barcelona, where she joined the Fabricademy program (Postgraduate in Textiles & Technology), allowing her to dive deeply into textile and biomaterials design. Her studies resulted in the creation of her project, Amber Grain Embroidery, a research initiative exploring root-based materials. Additionally, she pursued the educational program Future Technologies for Sustainable Fashion (FTSF) where she worked on the Soilskin project. This program was done in collaboration with Fab Lab Barcelona IAAC, IED and IdeaSquare-CERN focusing on Textile Science & Engineering, which further fueled her interest in additive manufacturing and sustainable fashion.
Barbara aims to inspire a new generation of designers to lead in sustainable and thoughtful design through her work. She is currently advancing her research on root-based materials while focusing on additive manufacturing technologies in fashion and textiles. Additionally, she is exploring the intersection of traditional local materials with emerging technologies.
